Bucks Lead League in Moral Victories PDF Print E-mail

The Milwaukee Bucks may be headed for the NBA Lottery once again (as predicted by Real Wisconsin News), but they do lead the league in moral victories this season, and that’s a real moral victory. Coach Larry K says that he has seen definite improvement in team chemistry, the worldwide viewership of the team is up, and the team has done fairly well at home.

While the Bucks don’t play like a team very often, apparently they do behave like one in the locker room. “We genuinely like one another,” said Mo Williams. “There are no egos on this team,” he added. Their record would certainly indicate the team should have no egos, but the coaching staff feels this is a moral victory nonetheless. “Some teams are really bad and also complain a lot,” said Coach Larry. “These guys aren’t playing very well, but they don’t really complain too much, even when only a couple thousand fans bother to show up to support them.”

The team is very complacent and cordial to one another, mirroring their general play in the third quarter of games. They let teammates use their mp3 players and handheld video games like they let opposing teams score on them. Considering they are in last place, no one seems to get very upset at one another. “It’s certainly not like that year when the Bucks made it to the Eastern Conference Finals with the Big Three and George Karl,” said TV announcer Jim Paschke. “Those guys were always getting in each others grills. Now it’s quite pleasant in the locker room, even when they lose five games in a row.”

In addition to a nice team, the Bucks have a team that is seen by millions worldwide because of their Chinese bench player. Chinese people throughout China watch pirated broadcasts of the game, and Wisconsin’s substantial Asian population seems to be somewhat interested in Yi Jianlian as well, and ticket sales to Asians has increased by at least fifteen tickets this year alone. The hope for Milwaukee is the Yi can help Milwaukee manufacturing companies create inroads into China so they can establish factories there and lay off their American workers. The Bucks organization has also hired several Asian people to work at home games, including a cheerleader and promotional announcer. While the moral victory of hiring an Asian cheerleader may not seem like a moral victory for the team, it is for fans who like Asian girls. “It really goes to show that Asians can do more than work as shop owners and doctors,” said a Bucks PR report.

The Bucks also have a good record at home, which is a moral victory, and also represents most of their actual victories. In fact, the Bucks home record is the best among really bad teams, and is similar to many teams with actual winning records. Conventional wisdom says that if a team can win at home, it can learn to win on the road, as well. The Bucks also started the season with actual victories, as they were once 7-4 and in first place in their division. They also went 5-16 after that start, in a stretch fraught with moral victories that effectively ended the season. The ultimate moral victory is that the Bucks could not play much worse than that stretch and it’s now behind them. Well, there was that other 4-14 stretch after the initial bad turn. And their blowout losses. Actually, the biggest moral victory for the 07-08 Bucks is the next lottery and the fact that there’s always next year.
